Some of you will be already following the advice here, which stems from my great good fortune in being able to have a successful heart operation.
Nearly two years ago in a check-up a young doctor picked up a faint murmur. A few months later, a cardiologist found the cause was a congenital defect in a valve, deteriorating through ageing. Further testing, scanning and ECG-ing, etc. over six months got me into hospital for an essential operation. There had been no symptoms, so the serendipity of the discovery in a chance check-up was heart warming and saving.
One of my cardiologists says I could get 15 more years –nothing like a bit of optimism! I hope recounting my experience here helps you to go for a regular check-up.
